A Hybrid Algorithm for Reliable and Energy-efficient Data Gathering in Wireless Sensor Networks

Reliability and energy efficiency are two important requirements of the data gathering process in wireless sensor networks. Accordingly, we propose a novel data gathering algorithm which meets these requirements. The proposed scheme categorizes the sensed data into valuable and normal data and handles each type of data based on its demands. The main requirement of valuable data is reliability. Thus, the adopted strategy to gather this type of data is to send several copies of data packets toward the sink. The rise of energy exhaustion in this scheme is tolerable. This is due to that, the valuable data is generated at a low rate. On the other hand, our main concern in gathering normal data is energy efficiency. As most of the sensed data is normal, an energy-efficient approach to gather normal data results in considerable energy conserving. Thus, we exploit clustering technique for normal data gathering. We also propose a lightweight intrusion detection system to detect malicious nodes. Simulation results and theoretical analysis confirm that our proposed algorithm provides reliability and energy efficiency at an acceptable level

A novel steganography algorithm using edge detection and MPC algorithm

With the rapid development of the Internet, preserving the security of confidential data has become a challenging issue. An effective method to this end is to apply steganography techniques. In this paper, we propose an efficient steganography algorithm which applies edge detection and MPC algorithm for data concealment in digital images. The proposed edge detection scheme partitions the given image, namely cover image, into blocks. Next, it identifies the edge blocks based on the variance of their corner pixels. Embedding the confidential data in sharp edges causes less distortion in comparison to the smooth areas. To diminish the imposed distortion by data embedding in edge blocks, we employ LSB and MPC algorithms. In the proposed scheme, the blocks are split into some groups firstly. Next, a full tree is constructed per group using the LSBs of its pixels. This tree is converted into another full tree in some rounds. The resultant tree is used to modify the considered LSBs. After the accomplishment of the data embedding process, the final image, which is called stego image, is derived. According to the experimental results, the proposed algorithm improves PSNR with at least 5.4 compared to the previous schemes

Metasearch engines submit the user query to several under- lying search engines and then merge their retrieved results to generate a single list that is more e®ective to the users information needs. According to the idea behind metasearch engines, it seems that merging the results retrieved from di®erent retrieval models will improve the search coverage and precision. In this study, we have investigated the e®ect of fusion of di®erent retrieval techniques on the performance of Persian retrieval. We use an extension of Ordered Weighted Average (OWA) operator called IOWA and a weighting schema, NOWA for merging the results. Our ex- perimental results show that merging by OWA operators produces better MAP
